The IGSA is the official student organization of all
F-1 visa
holders (international students) enrolled in a
post-baccalaureate (graduate) program
of Biola University.
The IGSA is composed of all such students among whom the IGSA Council Members (or officers)
are selected. The purpose of the IGSA is to design, implement, and maintain programs and/or
projects that will help students meet their needs in three aspects -- (1) academic,
(2) logistical/practical, and (3) spiritual/community -- and these are reflected in
the structure of the council. The IGSA Council works under the supervision
of and receives funding from the Director of International Student Services of Biola University.

- Transition Checkist: A Resource Kit
We have provided a checklist full of information for incoming students.
Please read this guide carefully before contacting IGSA.
Note also that not all information may be up to date. Although this has been
written for incoming students, current students may also benefit from it.
- Airport Pick-up
We can arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport. The only requirement
for this service is that you give a love-offering ($25 or more) to whoever picks
you up for gasoline and other expenses. See the Transition Checklist above.
- Barnabas Program
We can arrange for a current international graduate student to mentor you
for your first semester. The only requirement for this service is that you
must be willing to become a mentor yourself at least once after your first
semester. See the Transition Checklist above.
- GRAB
To help international graduate students with their financial needs, IGSA accepts donations
of furniture, clothing, and other items international students might need.
We then store them in a locker building on campus and then in a rented storage unit during
summer before students come for the fall semester.
All items in the GRAB were presented to the international students by kind and loving
individuals and churches.
Therefore, if you find anything you (Biola international graduate students) need at the
GRAB, they are yours for free.
When you finally leave Biola, and if the items you had received are still in good
condition, you may return them to the GRAB so that other students may benefit from them, too.
The GRAB is usually closed. To see what is actually inside and get what you need,
please make an appointment during our office hours (see above) by sending an email to
.
An IGSA officer will open the GRAB for you.
- Faculty Luncheon
IGSA sponsors monthly luncheon with a professor and some of the international graduate
students in the school or college the professor belongs. The purpose of this luncheon
is to provide an opportunity for the faculty members to get to know the international students
and their unique needs and for the students to get to know their professor’s expectations
of them. If you are interested in participating or if you would like to suggest a
professor to invite, please send an email to
.
- Community Events
A number of church members in the community and American students and alumni in Biola volunteer their time and money to help Biola’s international students by providing a caring and supportive community. IGSA works together with these volunteers especially in sponsoring events such PFC (see below), Open House, Labor Day Picnic, Thanksgiving Party, and International Students Retreat.
- Prayer, Fellowship, and Community (PFC)
Every Wednesday at 4:30 through 6:00 PM when classes are in session, a number of
international students and volunteers gather together for worship, prayer, and fellowship
in the Library Conference Room (upper level). Everyone is welcome to join us.
For further information, please send an email to
.
- Let us know your needs.
IGSA exists to serve international graduate students of Biola University. To meet our
purpose, we must know your needs and concerns and how IGSA can help you. So please do not
hesitate to contact us.
- Become a mentor.
Current international graduate students are encouraged to become mentors for incoming
students. For more information about the Barnabas Program, please see the Transition
Checklist above and then contact IGSA.
- Donate to GRAB.
Anybody who has unnecessary but usable furniture is encouraged to donate it to
GRAB in summer. Although we would like to receive your donations anytime, the limited
size of our on-campus storage allows us to accept donations in summer only when we rent
off-campus storage units to store donations for students coming in the fall semester.
- Join PFC.
Whether you are an international student or otherwise, your presence in PFC and other events (see
Services for Current Students) will be a great encouragement
to all the students.
- Pray for IGSA.
We serve under the grace and power of God. Your prayers are most crucial for our ministry.
Here are some of the pictures of Biola’s international community.
If you have photos to donate, please send them to
